To me, I think the
Waltons is a family worth modeling after. They make do with what they have, and they don't complain about what things they don't have. When they run into a little trouble, they always manage to get by. When the electricity gets turned off, Grandpa Walton goes off to town to pay the bills, even at the price of Grandma
getting upset because he left without bringing home the candles (and going with the Baldwin sisters, too!). But in the end, everything turns out alright. No one's mad at each
other anymore,
everyone's happy.
They don't refuse help to one who needs a warm bed and good food. From a penniless actress to a wandering musician. Even when they barely have enough to feed a family of eleven, they always manage to squeeze in one more for supper.
Back then, in the Depression, times were rough. Odds are a lot of people developed short tempers and got irritated quickly. But even when those tempers rose, the love felt for each
other never died. They kept their trust in each other and helped each
other through thick and thin.
You don't normally see families like them, huh? Willing to help a stranger in need, patiently helping a sibling over a fault. Helping parents make ends meet. That's a family with strong affections for each other and for people outside their house.
(Did I mention that it's an awesome show, too?)
